Wild Wednesday...

So, driving back from the shops, I see this extroidinary display of wild flowers in a very un-extroidinary part of Brighton...

I've watched these flowers growing over the last few months on the way back from various weekly food shopping trips, but I couldn't have anticipated just how beautiful they were going to become...

.... I had to pull over.

Seeing such a mass of them was breathtaking, and I thought Brighton and Hove City Council really wouldn't mind me picking just a few to take home and share...

...and to be honest, I couldn't stop playing with, and admiring them for hours...

... I particularly liked the Cornflowers as they were my school flower ( yes, we really did have a school flower; it was the basic design for our school emblem! )

but I adored all the colours together...

... and understandably completely fell in love!

An early drive this morning so only a quick glance around the garden...

I took the first photo this morning and the second yesterday evening...

Bank Holiday Monday...

Today is very wet...

watering cans are playing weird, discordant tunes...

new poppy petals are being pummelled to the ground...

snails have launched a new attack...

but I still love it out there...

Thursday... Oriental Poppies

Today has turned into an Oriental Poppy Day...

I've been having a lot of snail problems with the poppies, so I often nurse the blackened stemmed victims indoors...

I loved these poppies as a child, and my mum always called them 'Granny Poppies’, although I think she probably made that name up... 

They've been in this garden, apparently for ever, and this is my son about 11 years ago ( in hand made trousers, I’d like to point out.. ), in those heady days before there was a far less serious snail situation...

Yesterday all looked well, but there was a lot of rain in the night, and although this morning there was a cluster of annual lovliness...

There was also this...

Not wanting to waste their fleeting beauty, I introduced them to The Table...

...added some texture ( I’ve had that curved stone on the left, by the way, since I was 7...I dug it up in the garden of some elderly family friends, and was utterly convinced that it was the tip of a mammoth’s tusk...my brother was very into fossils at the time... )

and then found them their snail-free light...

( well...almost! )
